How Will You Reshape Your Role as an ODS?

Socrates said “the secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” His wisdom is still relevant today and to Oncology Data Specialists (cancer registrars)!

Yesterday a fellow ODS shared their wisdom on a recent post about data curation. They said … AI will help ODS’ reshape their role and the future of oncology healthcare. But here’s the thing, you can’t reshape a role if you only make changes based on decades of traditional, manual, workflows that are no longer sustainable.

If your registry has a backlog or are still using traditional, manual, workflows, are not abstracting in phases, or are not taking advantage of AI automation and auto-extraction for casefinding and abstracting, I urge you to reshape your thinking.

Don’t wait to consider AI automation until after you resolve the problems. Instead, put AI automation in front of the problem! Leverage its power to resolve the problems efficiently and reshape the workflows to work smarter, not harder, and deliver clinical and business insights in real-time.

Reshaping your thinking and approach to solving problems will transform and empower the registry as a strategic partner in cancer care.
