“I have enjoyed the Special Feature articles in the Journal of Registry Management written by Michele for several years. When she issued a call to fellow registrars to participate in a Leadership Mentoring monthly conference call, I jumped at the chance to discuss the issues involved in leadership for the registrar and for mentoring the future generation of registrars. The calls are a highlight of my month and I come away knowing that fellow registrars are a great resource to each other and can always be counted on to mentor, encourage and applaud the work of fellow registrars.”

What is a Cancer Registrar?
Cancer Registrars are the experts who collect, code and classify a complete summary of a cancer patient's disease starting at the point of diagnosis and for their lifetime. Cancer data is used to determine which treatments are best, to design clinical trials and to determine how best to support the cancer patient and their family. While much time is spent in front of a computer, registrars also collaborate with the cancer healthcare team to develop programs and services for cancer patients and their families. Cancer Registrars usually go on to achieve their certification (CTR) and participate in local, state and national professional association activities.
